Cooks For Dogs

I haven't been able to make this with my arm all tangled up in a sling, but Mr. MoonDog is all too happy to bake them.  Truth is, he hates it when I'm in his kitchen and that is perfectly fine by me.

Dylan and Jameson's Tail Waggin', Square Dancin' Snack-a-Roos

1 cup organic whole wheat flour

1/2 of a 15 ounce can organic pumpkin (not pie filler)

1/4 cup finely chopped carrots

1 Egg from a well mannered chicken

Mix all ingredients in a medium size bowl.  It is very important that you do not use a small bowl as you will not be able to mix ingredients comfortably without incurring some spillage.  If your bowl is too large, it won't matter but you'll be wasting valuable space in your dishwasher when it's time to clean up.  Save that large mixing bowl for popcorn.  By the way, did you know that virgin coconut oil (the real stuff from Trader Joe's, not the off brand at Walmart) is AMAZING on popcorn? Try it sometimes!  You'll love it!  Don't forget the salt!

Pour mixture out of your MEDIUM SIZE BOWL onto baking sheet lined with parchment paper.  Spread mixture out over the pan with a spatula to about 1/8" thick or so.  You know, like you're going to use the top of a Pickle jar to cut out circles for cookies.  But don't do that.  I mean you could, but it would be kind of stupid since in the end, these treats will be cut into squares.  Not circles, or star shapes, SQUARES.  Rectangles would be okay as well.  But squares are the preferred outcome.  Duh.  These are Square Dancin' Snack-a-Roos, NOT Circle Dancin' Snack-a-Roos.  I am totally rolling my eyeballs right now...

Bake for 35 minutes at 350 degrees.

35 minutes later...

Put on one of those oven mitt thingies you probably have in a drawer somewhere near your stove.  Open the oven door and CAREFULLY remove the baking sheet.  Do not attempt this without the use of hand protection.  The baking sheet will be very hot and you will cuss.

Now take that mitt off and pat yourself on the back.  You just made your dog tail waggin' happy!

BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE (yesIalmostforgot)

Once your masterpiece has cooled, use a pizza cutter to cut it up into small squares and then transfer to a small, lidded plastic container (you know, like the one Hillshire Sliced Ham comes in?  It's got a red top and they're reusable and it's like you're getting lunch meat AND fake Tupperware for the price of one?) and then store those babies in the fridge.

Your dog will love these and hey, you might too!  Try drizzling a little coconut oil one before you pour it on your popcorn...
