Flying North for the Winner

Our teleconference with the surgeon in Rochester was set for Friday afternoon.  We got a call 15 minutes prior to it that the Dr. had to go back into the OR and the call would be rescheduled one week from Monday as he would be on vacation the following week.  We were so disappointed.   I wanted to know that very day if we'd be going to Jacksonville or up to Rochester so I could have the weekend to make plane reservations and book a place to stay.  I wanted to do something, anything, to feel like I had a little control over what was coming because I sure didn't have any over where we were going.  It felt like a contest.  Who would win the chance to put their gloved hands on my son's heart?

On Monday afternoon, a vacationing Dr. Dearani actually called Nicholas and they chatted for several minutes.  Good doctor.

He was adamant that he should be the one to operate if we were willing to go there.  No question. He won.  We would fly North.

...

His surgery is scheduled for February 10th and we'll need to arrive 2 days early for pre-op and covid testing.

We'll leave Tallahassee on Sunday afternoon, February 7th and I booked our return for the 18th.

I found an Airbnb two blocks from Mayo so we won't need a car.

So much to do to get ready.

So much to pray about.

So much.
