Home (Show), Sweet Home (Show)

Every year after Market Days, which is a two day show where 401,724,953 people show up to do some serious shopping, I host an Open Studio Show and Sale.  Last night was my 14th one.

When I arrived home from my "Real Job" less than 45 minutes before the advertised start time, Mr. MoonDog was on the phone with our internet company, trying to get our service restored.  We were without WIFI and he knew this would not please his WIFE.

Because he spent a good hour troubleshooting with agents from another planet, ('Ello, I say to you now, ello.  You do can hear me? I ask please to you, unplug yellow cord and wait many seconds before plugging again back to unit) he did not have a chance to "tranq" the dogs.

When the doorbell rang at 4:00, the little darlings went into full action, protecting our home from people who wanted to exchange real live money for glassy treasures!  "After plugging again back to unit, give to your animal pack many sleepy time medicines and soon you shall be WIFI in quiet, working order, yes?"

Three customers later, the drugs kicked in and they were much less frantic.  Then we remembered to give the dogs their tranquilizers.  JUST KIDDING, JUST KIDDING!!!

Because I do torching demonstrations during this event, I was actually able to get some work done!  I needed more beads for Hollow Beaches, so I blew a few of those.

many eyes behind my back

Next year I've decided to demonstrate the art of "stringing beads".  This will be a hands-on activity and guests should expect to stay as long as it takes to string up enough inventory for me to bring to my next show.  It's fun, trust me!  Forget I ever said, "I love making beads but I hate making jewelry".

The night flew by and I realized again how very much I enjoy what I do.  Not just the crafting, but the interaction I have with my customers.  Usually, there's a domed, white canopy over my head and I'm limited to 100 square feet of rented space with artisans beside me, behind me and across from me, all competing for the chance to show their works to art fair patrons.  Tonight, I had 700 square feet of my own Studio and a captive audience that was all mine.

I'm seriously considering adding an Open Studio next Spring.  It's never too soon to start planning.  Well, actually it is.  First I need to reestablish regular sleep patterns of at least six hours a night, followed by a healthly dose of relaxation.

Wait, I hear a voice.  Shhhhh....

Ello?  You can hear me what I say to you now?  Since like dog you hard work, may you should sleepy time medicines take for yourself.  Unplug mind and rest for many seconds.

I don't have many seconds, Buddy.  I've got another show this Saturday and Sunday.
